Among the welfare activities that the company promotes, blood donation has a prominent place
IMG continues its welfare activities by opening its doors to AVIS, the largest voluntary blood donation organisation in Italy. Some volunteers from the provincial section explained to all employees the meaning of becoming “avisini” (AVIS blood donors), stimulating reflection on the importance of donating blood in favour of everyone’s health. Among the association’s testimonials there was Pietro Savoldi, president of AVIS Comunale Molinetto di Mazzano and volunteer of AVIS Provinciale Brescia, a historical donor with 338 donations to his credit. With him there was also Ermanno Manenti, councillor of AVIS Comunale Manerbio, president of AIDO Manerbio (Italian Association for Organ Donation), a multiple world cycling champion for transplant recipients who underwent a liver transplant in 2007.
IMG wishes to raise awareness of blood donation
IMG therefore wishes to raise awareness of blood donation, although no one is obliged to join. Those who wish to donate, can register at the most convenient location and proceed to the eligibility tests to become a donor.
IMG aims to make employees aware of this extremely important gesture. But that’s not all. The company wants to be the spokesperson for a good practice in the hope that other companies in the area will adopt it. Donating blood is a responsible gesture, useful for individuals and the community. A gesture that can make a difference if many people decide to donate regularly. “Everyone in the course of a lifetime may need blood,” AVIS volunteers explained, “Think of accidents or surgeries that require bags. Blood and plasma are used to treat many illnesses and are life-saving for those who have to undergo a transplant”.
The requirements for donating blood
Donating blood is easy and problem-free. The basic requirements to become a donor are an age between 18 and 60 years, a weight over 50 kg and a healthy, balanced lifestyle. All donations go through a very strict control system that certifies their full suitability. Every day 1800 patients in Italy need a transfusion and AVIS contributes to guaranteeing more than 70% of the total need.
In the name of welfare
For IMG, promoting meetings between its employees and AVIS is part of a broader vision of welfare activities. Encouraging initiatives that have a social and cultural impact is part of our values.
